Hurst, Eeqs., Justices.] Vagrant Act.— James Ingham pleaded guilty to a breach of this Act, by creating a disturbance in, Chancery-street, but urged in extenuation that he had been fighting for his wife, who was being maltreated by another or her sex of more powerful physique. A fine of £3 and costs, or in default one month's imprisonment with" hard labour was dealt out. Industrial Home.—Catherine Jones admitted being indebted in> sum of £1 13s, her accumulated contributions towards the support of her child in the Industrial Home. The case was adjourned for a fortnight in order to allow the woman an opportunity of shewing her willingness to pay off her liability.— Susan Wetherall admitted owing £9 5s for a similar object. One month's imprisonment with hard labour wae inflicted, as the woman was incorrigible. Neglected Child.—A little girl 11 years of age, daughter of the last prisoner, was committed to the Howe street Industrial Home for a term of three years to be brought up in the faith of the Church of England. Obtaining Goods Under False Pretences.—William Edgcombe pleaded guilty , to a charge of obtaining 21s worth of goods from Isaac Phillips under fake pretences. Sub-Inspector Pardy having stated the facts of the case a sentence of three months' imprisonment with hard labour was inflicted. Doe Nuisakcb Act.—Robert Smithers, Emily Dole, Amelia Dennet, John Lawford, James Hyett, and Richard Reeves were each! fined 5s and costs for breaches of this Act by 1 allowing their dogs to be at large without having licensed tickets affixed to their collars. Mr. Wm. Thome appeared on I behalf of Mrs. Dennet and Mr. Lawford. Municipal Police Act.—John Costello, for a breach of this Act, by allowing two cows, hia property, to wander on the Epsom Road, was fined 5s and costs. City By-laws.—Horace Mofflin pleaded' guilty to having committed a breach of the bylaws by a horse belonging.to him obtaining: its freedom and straying along Albert-street. 1 Aβ there were a "number of extenuating circumstances in the case, a moderate penalty of Is and costs was dealt out. Threatening Language.—Richard Ash was charged by Robert Glasgow with using fool and threatening language towards him on the 17th inst. At the requeet of Mr. Hesketh, counsel for the complainant, the charge was withdrawn.—A second charge of rescuing cattle preferred by the complainant against the defendant waa also withdrawn on the application of Mr. Hesketh. This was all the business.
