Jam buyers held back, expecting the late prices would not he maintained, but the auctioneer stated that makers were deteriniued to hold for those prices; as owing to the advance in price of fruit, they could not sell at a less price without loss. Johnson's I-lb. tins sold at 7s 9d to 7s 10d per dozen ; in jars, at 7Jd per lb. Tart fruit, 93 6d per dozen ; Wilson's jam, in 1-lb. tins, at 7s 6d per dozen.

Messrs. H. S. Meyers and Co. report having held a large and extensive sale of fruits, jams, hops, &c, &c, ex Jane, from Hobart Town. The trade was well represented, and keen bidding existed throughout. The articles submitted were of a very superior description, with the exception of a few lines of fruit. The result, however, taken as a whole, must be very satisfactory to the sihippers. Prices realised were as follow: —Apples : Golden harveys, 4Jdperlb. ; golden pippins, .2£d to 3|d ; French ciabs, 3d to 3Jd ; Btonc pippins, 3d to 3£d; pearmains, 2Jd to 3Jd ; Bleuheiui orange, 4d ; Wellington, 3d to 3£d ; ripestones, 3£d to 4d ; pears, 2d, 24d, 3d, 4d, and up to 5d per lb. Jims : Knight's Brothers celebrated K.B. brand (tins and jars) were in great demand. One or two lines of the former were disposed of at 7s 10Jd to Sβ per dozen ; and the balance (150 cases) were afterwards taken up by the trade at a slight concession on thin price. Jams sold at 7d to 7Jd per lb. ilolmyl and Kennedy's jams were offered, )iut only 30 or 40 cases were sold At 7b 3d; tart.fruit*, 9s Cd. The hops were of an exceptional/It; quality. Competition was, however, rat)i<:r alack for this line, caused by this tnarkul being overstocked. After the sale mum; '2(1 bales were, however, disposed of at priceh ranging from Is Gd to Is Sd per lb., duty paid. The same firm also report having sold the cargo of timber, palings, and rails, tx Jane, at prices shewing a slight improvement oa recent quotations. Messrs. JE. and H. Isaacs' sale of shipchandlery' at Williams and Co.'s stores was resumed to-day, and will be continued tomorrow (Thursday). The bidding was very goodMessrs.
