At a meeting of. the Hospital Committee to-day tenders for a year's supplies were accepted. Dr. Fox was re-appointed surgeon, Mr. Arthur dispenser, and Mr. Honise secretary and collector. The Manukau mine was sold by auction to-day, in consequence of dissolution of partnership. The bidding started at £100, and advanced to £400, at which it was bougbt by Mr. J. E. Macdonald. Terms, half cash, and the remainder when the transfer is effected. From the Robinson claim, Karaka, a trial of two tons gave 9ozs. 4dwts. amalgam, which is now retorting. COROMANDEL, Wednesday. 3631b5. of specimens are announced on hand in the Union Beach. A good haul was made this afternoon. In the Pride of Tokatea, gold is seen occasionally in the stoping. Steps have been taken to build a new launch for the Katikati trade, by the owners of the Rowena and Stafia, to draw 2 feet 6 inches loaded. A tender for the overland mail services to Napier was accepted for two years, the amount being £2000 per annum. The name is unknown, but supposed to be Mr. Quick. Although numerous applications have been made, and inquiries instituted for two suitable Maoris to send to the Philadelphia Exhibition, no eligible candidates have been found. The land sales during the last month realised £92,431. The sales yesterday amounted to £12,144. Licensing day passed off quietly. All renewals were granted ; two new licences in the outskirts of the city were granted; several were refused. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. At a meeting of shareholders in the Greymouth Coal Company, the committee report suggested that one of their number should go to frreymouth to inspect the mine and investigate affairs. It appears that if the coal could be sold at Dunedin for forty shillings, there would be a large sale. The report did not approve of purchasing colliers. It expressed the opinion that the outlay in opening the mine was greater than necessary, and that scarcely a single promise made by the directors had been fulfilled. A proposal that Dr. Morin should act for the Dunedin shareholders was made, but the meeting separated without adopting any resolution.
