FRIENDLY SOCIETIES BILL.
The delegates of the Auckland Friendly Societies met at the Thistle Hotel yesterday evening. Mr. Cole occupied the chair. A discussion took place with reference to the Actuary's tables, proposed to be compiled by Government, and the following telegrams, which passed between the chairman of the delegates and the Colonial Secretary yesterday, were read :—" Auckland, June 7, 1576. To the Colonial Secretary, Wellington: Please oblige by sending me copy of proposed Actuary's tables for Friendly Societies. —(Signed) Thomas' Cole, Chairman to the Delegates." " Government Buildings, June 7, 1576. To Mr. Cole, Chairman of the Auckland Delegates : I would willingly give the tables if I had them. You will see that the duty of preparing such tables is, by clanse 9, sub-soction C of the new bill, to be imposed upon the Registrar in future. That is one of the advantages of the change.— (Signed) Daxiel Pollen." A great deal of diversity of opinion was expressed as to whether the Government intended to allow the ordinary auditors of the several societies to audit their accounts, some of the delegates being of opinion that a public accountant would have to perform this duty, while others as strongly maintained that from the wording of the Act it was left to the discretion of the societies whether they employed their own auditors or a public accountant. After a great deal of discussion it was resolved, "That each society be requested to supply this committee with a copy of their tables of payments, and that the same, with the resolutions passed by the delegates, be prepared by the secretary and laid before this committee at their next meeting, to take place at the Thistle Hotel on Tuesday evening next, at half-past seven.
