FOOTBALL.

To the Editor of the Herald. Sir, —Would Mr." Touch Down" be sokind as to suggest in what way the Rugby Union rule 3 could be amended to suit all parties ? Why was not this objection raised when the rule 3 aforesaid came into force? "Prevention is better than cure," says the old adage, and X believe it is generally acknowledged. The clubs have played according to these rules for some time, I believe, and should any new regulations be enforced, there would be great disputes, and very likely fights would arise. At a meeting of one of the first football club 3 in the city, it was carried that the other clubs should be consulted, in order to ameliorate some of these supposed rough rules. If Mr. "Touch Down" would be kind enough to suggest any, lam sure we would be most happy to place them before the meeting. Rugby Union says, that hacking, and tripping up, shall under no circumstances be allowed. The game is intended to be rough, and if any other restrictions were made, there would be no game at all.
