AUCKLAND GYMNASTIC CLUB.

A special meeting of the members of the above club was held last evening in the Provincial Hotel, Princes-street, by the advertised invitation of Mr. Thomas Henderson jun., the honorary secretary of the association. About a score of the members were present, and they unanimously yoted Mr, Hox)kins into the chair. Mr. Henderson, the honorary secretary, then read the advertisement convening the meeting ; and expatiated on the miserable existence the club had lingered thtougli during the past year. The only place they had been able to obtain for their evolutions was one of the transepts in, the Market-house. This place was cold and uncomfortable, and people were mere likely' to stay away than to assemble in such a cheerless locality. He had consulted with , others of the fraternity, and they had come to the conclusion that the only suitable place to be litted lip as a gymnasium was the Parnell Hall. This building could be leased for £40 a-year for the sole benefit of the club. If taken for half a year, it would be 10s a-week for three nights a-week, the lighting rate constituting an extra payment, all this subject to special arrangement. If the hall were taken by the year, they would have the whole place in their own hands, and could let or sub-let it. The Hon. Sec. then read the names of 34 new members, most of whom belonged to Parnell, the district in which it was proposed to reinaugurate the society. Letters were read from several gentlemen explaining the reason of their absence, and expressing their coincidence with the views of the projectors in regard to the assumption of the Parnell Hall. It was then proposed and seconded, that the hall be taken for twelve months, and that the subscript tion should be 20s for the first six months, and ten shillings for each ensuing six months ; also, that every person joining mnst pay twenty shillings for the first six months, thus in effect paying an entrancefee.—This motion was seconded and carried unanimously.—Messrs. Cooke, Cousens, Henderson, and Hopkins were then constituted a sub-committee to arrange all matters connected with the transfer of the machinery and appliances of the club to Parnell from the bleak house under the marj ket roof. Some conversation ensued in regard to the advisability of establishing a class for gymnasts of tender growth, but no action was decided on. Finally, on the motion of Cousens, which was seconded by Mr. wick, it was agreed that the chairman he authorised to make an agreement with the proprietor of the hall for its use. The meeting then terminated.
