M.KCDOSALT), General Manager. Hotels!' "TiyAIWERA HOT SPRINGS. FEBRUARY 15, IS7O. . To the Editor of the S"ew Zealand HKRAI/D.- r Sir, I herewith enclose the translation of a letter written to nt in German, which hns reference to the medicinal properties of the waters of the Hot Springs of Waiwern. by Dr. Hucskcr, of H.I.M". s. 'Gazelle, , fluted 26th November, 1875. Jt being the owner of the Waiwera property, and having witnessed so mauy cures effected, feel it my duty, through the medium of your valuable journal; to publish the enclosed document for the benefit of suffering humanity.—l have the honor to be, sir. Yours very respectfully, ROBERT GRAHAM. Ovalau, November 26, IS7S. Ksteemea Sir,—You were good enough to invite the Captain and Officers of H.I.M. s. ' Gazelle - to a visit to your Waiwera Hot Springs, and in conveying to yon their thanks for the very great kindness and hospitality you shewed thorn during their stay there, I lake thia opportunity, in the iuterat of EUlTcrini; mankind, to describe to you the impression which not only the visit to, and use of the Springs, but also conversation with the various patients have produced upon me. . The Wsiwera not Spriups combine all t e advantarges of a climatic sanatorium, and possess an efllicaWood heat. The communication with.town is easy and comfortable, bodily comforts are provided by a ■well-kept Hotel and a well-furnished table. The locality is protected on'nearly every-side uy wooded mountain ranges, and (he surrounding , country ricli in natural beauties, with a glorious view of the sea. - According to an analysis now before me, the Vprinrjs abound in salts, which", according to their relations to the chief factors of circulation of tho blood and bodily reorganisation, as well as their experimentally and empirically proved effects, are apt to produce in their very composition an effect at once regulating, tontcal, and purgative, and capable of re-establishing tho normal condition of the human organisation whicli may have been disturbed by internal or external influences, and to invigorate its stability. It is the very happy combination of a number of heterogeneous factors, such as locality, climate, medicinal qualities, and temperature of the waters, which make the Waiwera llot Springs worthy of every consideration in the widest circles, and vouchsafes to them an important future. It is not my intention, nor am .1 in a position fo lay clown special instructions and directions about using the baths and the waters ; careful examination Mid observations would be necossarv to do that; but Baths as well ns the Springs, under careful observations of indications, will produce tho most salutary effects in a great number of diseases of the more iinportent organs and their consequent weaknesses, but Df all sorts. Accept the assurance of my nery highest appreciJtion and esteem, with which I have the honor to ".main, y ° UrS, DUESKER, M.D., Assistant Surgeon H. 1.31. s. ' Gazelle."
