Mr. Stuart has been appointed Colonial Treasurer o£ New South Wales. _ _ The Australasian Steam Navigation Company has completed the purchase of the extensive freehold known as Campbell's Wharf. £100,000 is said to have been the price paid. The company's trade has now assumed such a magnitude that their Sussex-street proI perty has become far too small, and they have now wisely secured the most valuable wharf property in the city, together "with ample stores, offices, &c. A despatch has been received in Sydney from the Home authorities, to the effect that the Queen had given her assent to the Act passed by the Parliament of Kew South Wales, entitled "An Act to Declare Valid Marriage with a Deceased Wife's Sister." •: A meeting of the Labour League, at Maryborough (Queensland), was hetd on Saturday, to oppose the employment of Kanakas within the town boundary. The police arrested three of the principal organisers on a charge of inciting to riot. Afterwards 150 Kanakas marched in procession through the town. Some excitement was caused in Pitt-street, Sydney, through the hoisting of .a gigantic safe into an uijstair room of a brauch Bank of New Zealand. Shears were erected for the purpsse, and strong tackle used, and during the progress of the work there were hundreds of spectators present. Mr. Jamrack, the well-known animal dealer of London, arrived in Melbourne by . the Sobraon. Mr. Jamrack is to the world of wild beast dealing what Wombwell was to , their exhibition.
