Lyttleton, Feb. 21.—'l lic Lyttdton Times reports :—lmport trade has been quiet during the week, but there is a fair up-country business being done by traders. Stocks of English goods have been again increased by the arrival of the Kangitikei on "Wednesday last, from London- Goods by recent arrivals have come freely to hand, and most importers are more anxious to push sales. The consignee ol the Canterbury portion of the Queen of the South's sugar, consisting of 200 tons, has not succeeded in placing it in Dunedin : the vessel brings it on here. There is a fate demand still for first whites and yellow crystals at late quotations. Spirits are very quiet. Hennessy's case brandy finds buyers at 318, bulk, Ss. Some fair sales of bottled stout have taken place at lis 3d to lis Gd.. Ale in glass is neglected. The first Basß' in bulk will find a ready market, but the outlet is very limited. Sales of prime 1875 Kent hops have been made at Is 104 d to Is lid ; arrivals are moderate. Timber remain as unsaleable as ever, with no immediate prospect of improvement. Cement meets with a sale te arrive at 203 6d, notwithstanding rather large supplies advised. Galvanised iron remains dull, and is offering at very low prices. Cornsacks are rather more firmly held, and there are fewer sellers at under lis for full weights, and then only for moderate parcels. The past due San .Francisco mail was delivered to-day, with dates to December 16. The Suez mail may be expected at the Bluff about Monday.
