By latest advices we learn that tho schooner Amherst, 220 tons, Captain Berry, was loading at Sydney for this port. The vessel wa3 bound from Mahurangi to Auckland, when she was overtaken by a squall on Monday, anil her sails split to pieces. She became unmanageable, and was blown into the Barrier Straits, and was rapidly drifting out of the track of vessels. Captain Oakes placed the men on board his craft, and took the yacht in tow, bringing them to Auckland, for which they both expressed their gratitnde for preserving thoir lives. • ARRIVAL OF THE BARQUE ELSt GROVE. The barque Elm Grove, Captain Leddra, which was signalled all yesterday afternoon, made the harbour at an early hour this morning. She left Newcastle on the 22nd December, and had light S. W. winds, she brings 400 tons coal, and 10 tons bones, consigned to Stone Brothers. NOTICE TO MARINERS.
