CITY EAST ELECTION.
To the Editor of the Herald. Sir, —In the interests of fair play, allow me to correct a statement made by Mr. Kees in Ma letter to last night's Star to the following effect:—"Mr. Peacock, who when proposing Mr. Clark at the nomination ai&cd, if I mistake not, what Sir George GisY had done for us." What I really did say wa;f'as follows :—" Gentlemen, lam not here to depreciate in-' the sligheSt degree the enifncut services rendered by.Sir George to the colony. 1 admit that he is well er.fci'led to the position of leader, and deserving of all honour" ; words of a very different meaning from those impnted to me by Mr. Kees, and which are calculated to create a prejudice against Mr. Clark, notwithstanding that that gentlemen has even in his first address emphatically expressed the desirability o£ all the Auckland members acting under Sir George as their leader. —I am, &c, Thos. Peacock.
