THE GOLDFIELDS.
: [ntOH OU» OWN COKKBSrOHBHNT.] i Thames, Saturday. X-rrriJß LiZZIB (KaBAKA). —The shareholders (Prescott and Johnson) crushed 40 lbs. specimens, and realised 11 ounces 10 dwts. of gold. ..";;. .. . White Rose.—The tribute™ crushed 4 tons) and obtained 10 ozs. 5 dwts. gold. ' Moanatairi.—Cleaning up took place on Friday evening previoue to the Christmas protection for the mine, and realised from 250 tons stone 205 ounces 15 dwts. gold. City ok London.—The operations of this company have been directed to working the reefs 1 and 4. on the third level, since the cross-lode has been exhausted, but after a fair trial, crushing of 20 tons of No. 1 reef at Bull's battery, the result only gave some two ounces of gold, far below the estimate reckoned on opening the lode in this level, and strongly in contrast to the yield obtained from the same reef at the 420 feet level, where it yielded over 1 ounce to the ton. The stone from No. 4, of which 95 loads were crushtd, was of a better description, yielding 54 ounces gold ; this might be considered payable, but owing to the tight ground, the smallness of the reef, as well as the erratic course of the lode, renders it expensive to work, so much so, that by itself it will not pay to keep thn necessary staff in addition to the miners employed. This result must compel the directory to look to their bottom levels aglin, and the eooner they with others can do this, the better it will be for them and the mining community. The No. 1 is identical with the lode attempted by the Queen of Beauty on the surface with about the same result.
