HIGH FARES.
To the Editor of the Herald. Sib, —As one who is in the habit of visiting very frequently the Waiwera Hot Springs on account of the virtues of its waters;' and looking to the advantages o! this place as a marine retreat in which to spend a few days, I think it -a pity the citizens of Auckland are excluded from enjoying the same through the want of more frequent communication and the excessively high fares charged. It is true there is communication three times a week, but what is wanted is a steamer *to make a trip on the Saturday and return on the Monday, at the reasonable fare, say of ten shillings return ticket. Were this done, scores of business men would take advantage of it if they could rely upon getting back on Monday in time to resume business. This could be done by a steamer leaving Auckland, say at 3 o'clock on Saturday, returning by 9 o'clock on Monday morning. Thus no tim'e would be lost. • There is little doubt, if the Messrs. Holmes were to consult the public interest in the matter, it would prove remunerative, especially as trips could be made in tlfe interval, if inducement offered, to visit the Eawau and other attractions in the neighbourhood.—l am, &c., - Ah Invalid.
