She will probably leave to-day. The mail steamer Cyphrenes took her departure for Napier and Southern ports yesterday, to collect mails 10th inst. IIPESrs. Sims and Brown have recfived orders from Captain Casey to build a large punt, for the purpo e of. tendering the steamer Minnie Casey on her arrival at and departure from the Hot Springs. A flue schooner i 3 beint; built at Wangaroi by ilessrs. Lace and Brown. "She is now planked and nearly finished, and may shortly be expected in Auckland. She has been built to the order of Captain lane, of the schooner Charybdis, and will register about 70 tons. The same firm have also a cutter on the way. The s.s. Wellington arrived at Onehunga yesterday morning, from the South. She left Port Chalmers at 4 p.m. on 2nd inst.; arrived at Lvttelton at 10 a m. on the 3rd; sailed at 1.30 p m., and arrived at Wellington at 5.30 a.m. on the 4th; sailed at 2.15 p.m., and arrived at Picton at 7 p.m.; left at 2.30 a.m. on the Gth, and arrived at Nelson at noon; left at 3 p.m. on the 6th, and arrived at Taranaki at 10 a.m. on the 7th; sailed at noon, and arrived at Onehunga wharf at 5.15 a.m. en the Sth. Had light head winds throughout the passage, at times the weather very thick. We are indebted to Mr. McComick, the purser, for prompt delivery of our flies, &c. THE MAIL SEEVICE. The mail steamer Cyphrenes left for Napier and Southern ports yesterday, to collect mails and passengers. She will proceed as far as Port Chalmers, and then return to this port, leaving for San Francisco, via JCandavu and Honolulu, on Sunday, thn 19th instant. At Kandavu she will receive the mails from the steamer from Svdney. The latter steamer will then await the arrival of the steamer City of San Francisco, from Sin Francisco (which vessel wss to leave on December 0), and receive mails and passengers for this colony, and come on here, proceeding as far South as Port Chalmers, and returning to take the next outward mails. The City of San Francisco may not have our mails on board, as the s.s. Mikado, which was to leave on the same day, is clearly entitled to receive them. The postmaster at San Francisco, however, seems inclined to send the mails by the A merican boats, a3 we understand he did not want to send our mails by the Macgregor, but kept them for the Colima, and had it not been for the energy displayed by Captain Grainger, or tbe Macgregor, who telegraphed to London about the matter, we should not have had our letters at the present lime. Whether the ne*t inward mail will come by the Mikado or City of San Francisco, remains to be seen. The Colinm will probably not cimo to this .port this trip, as, should she call at Kandavu, ahe "will find letters awaiting her, ordering her on to Sydney at once, so as to be in time to connect with the Cyphrenes at Kandavu. There is just a chance that she may not call at Kandavu, in which case ahe may be expected to arrive here at any moment. The whole service seems to have got into a regular bnngle, as two boats are running in opposition to each other, entailing u large pecuniary loss to themselves, and a Joss of £8000 to the colony.
