WESLEYAN DISTRICT MEETING.

The annual meeting of the ministers of the Auckland District commenced:; yesterday morning, iu the school-room of the Pittstreet Church. There were present—the Revs. A. Reid (Chairman), J. Wallis, J. Warren, H. H. Lawry, C. H. Schnackenberg (Raglan), W. Gittos (Kaipara), J. Crump (Thames), W. J. Watkin (Onehunga), W. Rouse (Hokianga), J. Smith (Waikato),' W. G. Thomas (Wangaroa), W. J. Williams (Auckland), and Wiremu Patene (Waipa). ' The Rev. H. H. Lawry was elected to the office of secretary.. ' : On the roll of ministers being called,; it was found that death for another! year had left it unbroken, although more than one had been laid low by severe! illness. Sympathetic allusion ■was made to the great loss recently sustained by the Rev. W; C. Oliver, late of this district, in the death of Mrs. Oliver, and it was unanimously resolved that a letter be'sent to ■ him, expressive of condolence with him in his severe bereavement. The session was mainly occupied in considering the financial receipts, and the statistical returns from the Maori, and the Home Mission stations, with a view to the preparation of a report, to be presented to the public nrssionary meeting in the evening. In regarding the claims of the district for additional ministerial labour, a conversation arose with respect to the difficulties presented by its . geographical peculiarities placing it at a disadvantage in that particular a3 compared with other New Zealand districts and the other Australasian colonies.. It was thought that the spiritual wants of the small and scattered communities of the district could best be attended to by the appointment of a young minister to assist the chairman, so that he might be at liberty to pay periodical visits to the places requiring pastora 1 . visitation. : The settlement of this and of various other questions raised. during the day was deferred until a later period of the meeting.
