<Jentltjsien,— Having heard that it is being -circulated that in coming forward as a candidate for the honor of representing you in the ■General Assembly, that I do so with the intention of opposing Sir George Grey, and as 2. supporter of the present Government, I take the earliest opportunity of giving this report an unqualified denial. Should you do me the honor of electing me I will take the position of a thoroughly independent member, free, in your interests to support or oppose any measure, irrespective of the men by whom it may be brought forward. I will take an early opportunity of expressingmy opinion on some of the leading questions •of the day.—l am, jjgntlemen, yours, &c, J. M. Clark.
