Tenders will b - received at the Office of the Colonial Secretary, Fiji, until the 30th October next from steamship owners and others desirous or establishing an INTEI.'INSULAR STEAM. PACKET CViII'ASY In this colony. The proposition or tender to specify the amount of subsidy required by the contractors. The contract to be tor Two Oceangoing Steamers of not less than seventy (70) and not more than one hundred and fifty (160) tons registered measurement, upon a draft of water when loaded of not more than six S>) feet. The contract to be for a term of five years from the date of execution, subject to renewal at its expiration without further tenders being called for. provided the service has been performed to the satisfaction of the Government. Contractors will be required to enter into bonds for the due performance of their engagement. Eastern Service (once a fortnight from Levuka or other port as may be hereafter decided) to llua, AVainunu, Savu Savn, Vnna, alriki, Mat, lliuthala, Loma Loma, Goro, Mokogai or Wakaya. Western Service (once a fortnight from Levuka or other port as may be hereafter determined, to Vitl Levu Bay, Rakl Raki, Tavua, Ba, Nadl, Nadroga, Navua, Suva or Rewa. And once in every four weeks to Kadavn, or such other place, not being the Seat of Government, at which the Trans-Pacific mail steamers may call. i It is desired that the foregoing lervlce may be so arranged a* to admit of one of the two vessels generally beii.g at th? Seat of Government. It will also require the contract to be so expressed as to permit the Government, whenever it may so desire, to employ the unengaged steamer upon special service, at a daily rate of remuneration, to be settled in the contract. In consideration of the subsidy to be given by the Government, the contractors to carry H.M. mails, Government officers on duty, and police ani prisoners free of charge, save such as may arise for maintenance while on board.
