OTAHUHU MEETING.
To the Editor of the Herald. 1 Sir, —Will yon kindly allow me to point out an error into which yonr reporter has fallen in recording what I stated at the Otahuhu meeting? The error is easily explained, as yonr reporter had not arrived when the meeting commenced, and either filled up the blank, caused by hi 3 absence, from his own imagination, or, more probably, copied from the notes of the Star reporter, who was present. Yon report me as having said, "If they went to any of the old settlers, and asked them what they thought, the reply would be, that Provincial Institutions had never assisted them." Whereas, I stated that there were many of the old settlers who had a great admiration for Provincialism, remembering the valuable services it had rendered them in days gone by, and the earnest and faith* ful manner in which it had worked for the advancement of the colony. X also pointed out the ability displayed by Sir George Grey in framing the Constitution, and that nothing could ever deprive his name and memory of the honour of having initiated so wise a policy. I then went on to say that the Provincialism of the present day bore no resemblance to that of the past; and that even the penetration of Sir George Grey could not discover a single argument for its retention. For a confirmation of this statement I bee to refer yon to any one of. the many intelligent gentlemen who were present at the m«eting.—l am, &c., W. WooDWAiib.
