INTER-PROVINCIAL FOOTBALL MATCH.

A meeting of gentlem: n interested in the proposed visit of a football team to the Southern provinces, was held last evening in the Thames Hotel,—Mr. Sharland in the chair. About thirty gent lemen were present. The advertisement convening the meeting having been read, Mr. T. Henderson, jun., said that in deference to a general wish he had written letters to the sec: etaries of the clubs art >*ew Plymouth, Wellington, Nelson, Lyttelton, and Dunedin ; to which answers had been received from the first four places. The replies to the letters, v hich were then read to the meeting, were of ii very satisfactory nature, the writers expressing their approval of the plan, and applauding the pluck of the Auckland men in agreeing to fight them on their own ground. A letter was also read from Greymouth, asking the Auckland team to visit that place during tb iir intended tour, and promising that if the |-did so they Bhould have a hearty receptio;:!.—Mr. H. Boardman, jun., seconded by Mr. Caverhill, it was decided that the following gentlemen should act u 3 a committee to collect subscriptions an*! select the players who were to proceed toi;ae South ; —Messrs. T. Henderson, jun., Marshall, A. King, H. E. Cotton, and H. J. Cllis.—ln reply to a question from Mr. A. Boardman, jun., it was stated that the tcim would have the power to elect their own captain. —A lengthy discussion ensued in re", ition to the uniform to be worn, expenses of trip, time at which it would be desirable to leave Auckland, and various other matters. Several propositions were also mooted, with the object of raising money to defray the expenses of the trip.—Mr. H. Hendercon read a letter from Mr. Walpole, in which it was suggested that ail entertainment should be given in the Choral Hall, and the proceeds devoted to the expenses connected with the proposed visit.—lt was ultimately agreed, on the motion of Mr. T. Henderson, jun., seconded by Mr. Isaacs, t'aat the committee and members exert themselves to collect subscriptions, and that a general meeting be he d at the same time and place next Wednesday evening, on which occasion the lists are to bo handed in.—A vote of thanks to th'i oh,oirmau concluded the proceedings.
