MEETINGS.
To tho Editor of the Herald. Sir, —To-day I met a very sensible, respectable tradesman, who told mo frankly he was at tho recent political public meotings, and after his passionate report of them, orally, and earnestly, and duly given to me, he seemed quite " brought up standing" when T said, I thought most of tho stuff then and there delivered (per newspaper reports) was irrelevant. And iow, sir, a word to the point. I repeat, Ido think the only present relevant thing (I say present) is, shall the revolutionary, topsy-turvey measure proposed by our most wonderful friends Pollen and Stafford be precipitately hurried through now, at the fag-end of the session of tho last Parliament ? Legally, constitutionally, necessarily, of course, we must have a general election soon. Shall the largo, the tremendous question be remitted to the universal hustings, ordained for all the New Zealand Islands for March next ? It is not, shall wc appoint a general election to discuss and decide the question. No ! But this did seem almost assumed, if not inferrable from the good resolution carried. No! It must be, spito of friends or foes. Tho goneral election will come off next March. Will our discussionist friends just now try to stick to the only one allowable point, relating to the tail-end of the session and the forthcoming general election, for, on good conditions, everybody is an abolitionist ? In haste; more anon. — I am, &c, W. E. Sadler. August 13, 1875.
