WAIUKU.

During the -week the Government School Inspector, Mr. It. J. O'Sullivau, has been visiting the schools around here. He arrived here on Saturday last l>y the s.s. Tain o' Shanter, and stayed till Monday at Campbell's hotel, when he commenced his duties by inspecting the Woiuku School, conducted by Mr. W. W. Taylor. This inspection took the whole of the day. On Tuesday ho proceeded to Waipipi to inspect the school there. This school is conducted by Mi-. Stevens ; and on Wednesday the school at Whiriwhiri, conducted by Mr. Cliap, iell, was inspected ; and on Thursday the Waitangi school was inspected. This last Lchool is conducted by Miss BiHchofi". I hear that the Inspector was very much pleased with the progress made in this school since he last inspected it. After examining this school the Inspector proceeded to Patumahoe, on foot, to visit the schools in that district. The weathor has, during this week, been unusually dry for the month of August, and the settlers are availing themselves of the opportunity of preparing their land and putting in some of their crops. Several are waiting for manure ; the supply does not seem equal to the demand. It will be remembered that some months since Messrs. Campbell Brothers commenced to burn shell lime; but the demand was so small that they have discontinued it. However, some of the settlers wish to know what properties are in shell lime, and to what ground it is most suitable as a manure. Could you or any of your numerous readers answer?— [Own Correspondent, August ".]
