FOOTBALL GOSSIP.
An enthusiast in this game drops the following lines :— " There is a tide in the affairs of man which leads on to"—Ah 1 it's a grand climax—a touch-down, or yet a still grander desideratum, a goal. Who can tell ? who can even judge whether the laurels will be borne by our trading fraternity, or will the financiers succeed in returning triumphant from the battle-field on Saturday. Football as a noble game, it is in fact a great moral game; look at the virtues it instils, —it teaches the players many of the great lessons of life—forbearance, endurance, good temper, coinage, temperance all come within its category, and the magnanimous feeling of never despairing. But to the game to be played on Saturday next. Banks v. Warehouses, in the Government House ground ; and wateh the up-heavings of those jerseys, when the coin is tossed to decide the choice of goals ; look at that young tyro in all his tremulousoess, pale with excitement, and eager for the fray; and the captains too, with looks of flombreness and anxiousness that betokens the honor of a country. Yea ; this is the finest coaching for a young country that one can think of. The Banks team will comprise Messrs.
