HIGHWAY BOARD MEETINGS.

TTJRANGA. A meeting of the ratepayers in this district took place at Mr. Nathan's farm, Mr. J. Craik in the chair. A rate, equivalent to 2d per acre, cr Id in the £ on £2 per acre (the estimated value of the land for sale), was carried unanimously. On taking the votes for trustees there appeared to be for—Mr. Aitchison Oliver, OS votes ; for Mr. William Trice, 65 ; for Mr. George Trice, CO ; for Mr. \\ illiam Wright, GO; for Mr. HughMcKenzie, 49 ; for Mr. Ambrose Trust, the younger, 24 ; and for Mr. Isaac Wade, 14. The first five were declared duly elected. Mr. William Henry Turner and Mr. Ambrose Trust, the younger, were appointed auditors ; and Mr. John I/)rd and Mr. Patrick O'Meagher were elected fence-viewers.

WAIPU XORTH. The annual meeting of ratepayers of this district took place on Saturday, 31st July, in the schoolroom. Mr. M. K. Morrison was elected chairman. The accounts, which were adopted on the motion of Mr. A. McKay, U.S., seconded by Mr. K. McDonald, were as follow :—Receipts : Kates collected, £57 Is GUI; fload Board grant, £93 3s ; grant in aid from Provincial Government, £33 ; total, £IS3 4s G.Sd. Expenditure : Forming, &c, £75 12s 21 d ; bridges and culverts, £96" lis ; collecting rates, £1 os : salaries and rent, £o; printing, ic, t'l 3s ; legal expenses, £1 3s ; miscellaneous, £4 10s 4d ; total, £185 4s G'd. The rate for the ensuing year was fixed at one penny iu the £ on the value to sell, and value to sell at a uniform rate of £2 per acre. The following gentlemen were elected trustees :— Messrs. N. McKenzie, J. McLean, D. McDonald, .T. J. McKay, A. McKay, U.S. ; Messrs. H. Sutherland'and J. McKay, auditors. It was not thought necessary to appoint fence-viewers. The usual vote of thanks to the chairman was accorded, and the meeting dispersed.

PIROXGIA. The annual meeting of ratepayers was held in the blockhouse, Harapepe, on the 31sfc July. Mr. A. S. Sherret having been elected chairman, read the advertisement convening the meeting, and the minutes of last annual meeting, which, after some discussion, were confirmed. The chairman of the late Board read the statement of accounts, which was as follows :—Receipts : Balance from last year, £0-1 Gs sd; rates collected, £SS 13s 6d ; amount received from the Colonial Government, £9G 12s ; amount received from the Provincial Government, £37 10s; miscellaneous, £5 ; total, £292 Is lid. Expenditure : Forming roads, £192 9s ; bridges and culverts, £2Glls4d; other works, £24 163 Sd ; salary of ferryman at To Ron, £22; printing and advertising, £2 14s; miscellaneous, £12 10s Id; balance on hand, £11 OslOd; total, £292 Is lid. The balancesheet having been passed, Mr. McMinn proposed that a rate of one penny in the £ on the value to sell be struck, and that the rateable property in the district be valued by the trustees. Seconded by Mr. Edwards. Mr. Rosborough proposed that the rate be one halfpenny in the £. Seconded by Mr. Rollo. On the amendment being put to the meeting, 13 votes were recorded for it; for the original motion 15 votes ; and one penny in the £ was declared to be the rate for the current year. The following trustees were then elected : —Messrs. J. Hodgson, E. G, McMinn, T. Rosborough, P. James, and W. Livingstone. Messrs. Kollo and J. Sherret; were appointed auditors, and Messrs. A. S. Sherret and J. Morrison fence-viewers. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the ordinary business of the meeting, when Mr. McMinn stated that it had been decided at the last meeting of the late Board to bring forward the subject of the establishment of a school in the district, and moved " That, in the opinion of this meeting, the time has arrived for the establishment of a school at some central point in this district." Seconded by Mr. Hodgson and carried. Mr. McMinn then read a letter from the secretary of the Board of Education on the subject, and also stated that he had received au offer of a site for a school, from Mr. Roper, in a most central situation, on a lease of 30 years, at a rental of Is per annum Those present agreed that the site was the most suitable in the district available. The boundaries of the proposed educational district to be submitted to the Board of Education were agreed upon, and |the chairman of the new Board was requested to open communication with the Board of Education towards carrying out the object of the above resolutions. KAUKAPAKAPA SOUTH. The annual meeting of the Kaukapakapa. South Highway District was held in the Hall on the 24tli July according to advertisement; but, as there was not the number present required by the Act, the business could not be transacted. The accounts of the past year, however, were submitted to those present, and were approved. The following gentlemen were then recommended to the Superintendent as trustees and auditors for the e.-isuiug year : —Trustees : Messrs. Robert Sinclair (chairman), Henry Marks, Morris G. Henley, Charles Simcock, aud John Sinclair. Auditors : Messrs. T. J. Jaggar, senior, and Joseph Simcock. It was thought unnecessary to recommend fence-viewers at present.
