HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
[Pit ESS AOK.VCV.] Wellington, Tuesday. The following members took tho oaths and their seats : —Sir George Grey (received with loud cheers), Messrs. George McLean, Von der Heyde, Ward, Dignan. Tho issue of a writ f»r the election of a member for Wallace, rice Webster deceased, was left in the hands of the Speaker, who will make it returnable with all reasonable despatch. Notices of tha usual sessional committees were given. The Native Minister briefly announced the cause which led to Sir Julius Vogel's resignation and tho constitution of the Ministry, Tho following papers were laid on tho table : —Commission of the Hon. Marquis of Normanby ; despatches from Secretary of State to tbo Governor ; despatches from tho Governor to the Secretary of State on immigration to New Zealand ; letters from tho Agent-General; letters to the AgentGeneral ; immigration returns shewing the number of assisted and nominated, rate of passage money, amount paid, amount in notes ; statement of the cost of chartering four ships in London ; correspondence within the colony, re immigration, petition of Sir George Grey to the Secretary of State, and correspondence connected therewith; report from officers in nativo districts; letters relative to Sir Julius Vogel's detention in England ; report by Inspector of Surveys ; reports on lunatic asylums ; report by Alexander Mackay, land purchaser in Middle Island ; papers relative to the New Zealand University ; number of petitions presented, including one by Mr. O'Neill, regarding increased representation for the Thames. Sir Donald McLean gave notice of motion to introduce a Protection to Animals Amendment Bill. Mr. Inglis gave notice of moving the address in reply. Sir Donald McLean gave notice that he ■would propose Mr. O'Rorke as Chairman of
I Committees, and that in future the House sit at 2.30 p.m., and rise at 5.30, and reI same at 7.30. J The House adjourned till 2.30 p.m. tomorrow.
