THE NEW ZEALANDER.
To the Editor of the Herald. Sn:,—lu your journal of the 9th, you attribute "the commercial ruin" of the Xcio Ztalaniltr newspaper to the fearlessness with which t!i« proprietor opposed the Waitara war. I have always heard assigned, a very different cause. You seem to be unaware that the Southern Cro&s, to which you make pointed reference, opposed the war with even greater " fearlessucas," and continued to do bu until au entire change of management took place. Tiirn up the old tiles, aud examine tor yoursult. The two newspapers, taking the same course, could not injure each other. The downfall of the Xcw Zealantter datea from tho retirement of that partner to whom its previous success was due. It is not for nic tii assign the cause of that retirement, though it is possible that I may not be altogether in ignorance.—l am, &c, Hunn Carletox. Bay of Islands, July 14, 1575.
