TOUCH COURT.—Wednesday.
[Itaforc C. N. Marshall anil < li.ts. o'X:i'l, Estis., Justices J Drunkenness. — Four persons for this otlence were punished in the usual manner. Drunk and Disorderly.—lid ward Reilly, charged with behaving himself in a disorderly manner in Queen-street, was lined i!os and costs, or 4S hours' imprisonment. Larceny.—Patrick Murphy, alias Michael Xaglc, was charged with stealing books, valuers, the property of Alfred ij. Fulljames, ou or about the '2nd July. Alfred S. Fulljames, broker and bookseller, deposed to having seen the prisoner at about 4 o'clock <>n the preceding day with books in his hand. Had seen liim before selling bottles. On taking his shutters down on Friday morning last, found a number of his books missing. Constable O'Reilly deposed to having arrested the prisoner. Prisoner stated to him that he had bought the books from a man whose name he did not know. Inspector Hroliam said that the prisoner had just been let out of gaol. A number of previous convictions had boon recorded against him. Sentenced to six mouths' imprisonment ,v ith hard labour. Alleged Incendiarism.—James Couley, sen., James Conley, jun., Susan Couley, and Harriet Rolton, were brought up oil a charge of wilfully and feloniously setting (ire to a dwelling-house tho property of the iirst named prisoner, with intent to defraud the New Zealand Insurance Company. Oil t.he application of Inspector Broham, the case was remanded for a week. Naval Trailing Scuool Act.—John Donovan aud William H. T. Woods were brought up on remand charged with absconding from the Naval Training School at Kohiuiarama, on the 2:2 nd June last. Captain Breton, manager of the school, gave evidence as to the escape of the prisoners. Their previous conduct had been satisfactory. After some consultation, the presiding Magistrates ordered the lads to be confined in the school prison for seven days. This concluded the business.
