Thames, Tuesday. A I'AiK'nr. containing 5 cwt. 3 qrs. of quartz was brought down by natives from the Maoris' claim, Tairua, to the Tramway battery, and yielded G dwts. retorted gold. The directors of the Crown G.M. Co., Tairua, have instructed Mr. T. Logan to commence operations on their claim. He proceeds with a party of men, tools, &c., to that part of the 13 men's ground held by them, for the purpose of intersecting the reef running from the Risk portion of the Ajax, and which is estimated to traverse the greater part of the Crown ground.'' The directors of the Star of the South havo given orders to Mr. \V. Logan to proceed with work, and prospect their ground. The claim is situate between the Britannia, Brothers, and Golden Gate, and carries the same reef from which one ton is now crushing as a test from the Golden Gate. . . A parcel of 2 tons from the Pacilie, Collarbone, was forwarded by Mr. V hittaker to the Prince Alfred battery, Jrulil which *2 ozs. 7 dwt. retorted gold were obtained. A parcel of 30 tons from the Sliotover, Dab's tribute, was forwarded to the Kuranui battery, and '21 ozs. retorted gold obtained.

Wednesday. The tributersin the Moa, lvaraka, crushed 7 tons for S ozs. 15 dwts. cold. The Inverness (Scholicld's tribute) crushed 30 tons, which have yielded the substantial return of 307 ozs. 14 dwts. melted gold. A meeting of the provisional directors of the Hand of Hope (Tairua) was held last night, and a uiiue manager was appointed, and ordered to start operations on the ground at once.

Mr. F. I lay kill has been appointed mine manager of the Gem Gold Mining Company, to start forthwith.

The Golden Anchor (Tapu) lodged in the National Bank 7 ozs. l'J dwts. l'2grs. melted gold, aud Mr. McDowell lodged G ozs. 19 ilwts. IS grs. from a Tapu claim. The result of the crushing of - tons 5 cwt. from Tairua, retorted and melted Sl> ozs. 15 dwts.

Cochrane is a passenger to-night, to Auckland, on sick leave. There is no law ollieer in Coromandel. Bismarck, Mr. Dobson, manager, banked 307 ozs. gold yesterday ; a few more ozs. to come ; w ill make over -UK) ozs. in all. T.mkua, Wednesday. Amongst the arrivals are Messrs. Much interest is shewn in the result of the crushing for the Brothers claim. A large amount ot work has been done under Mr. Garland. 'I hey have live different lodes in hand.

The T.iirua people liavu pierced through the footwall of the lode, which shews ,"U feet wide, and have just touched the brown stone that contains the rich gold. One or two pieces are now being put th.ough the crucible. 1 will give the result to-morrow. His neighbour heard the report, and on going inside found l'addoek lying on tlnj lloor insensible, his face burned, whiskers and eyebrows singed oil", the store shattered to pieces, the windows blown nut. Paddock has been desponding some time, and will not say whether he put the flask in the oven himself or not, but it is thought that he did so, in order to commit suicide.

Dun ej>i n*, Wednesday. Walter \ ause, late postmaster at Alexandra, charged with embezzlement, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, without hard labour. Prisoner had previously borne a good character.
