The quarterly session of the Circuit Court, for gaol delivery, opened on the oth. His Honor Mr. Justice Gillies delivered the nsnal charge to the Grand Jury. The calendar was a light one. The majority of the offences were larceny and stealing from dwelling-houses in various ways. There was one case of shooting with intent, but the prisoner pleaded guilty, and it turned out the act was done through resentment at the seduction of his wife by the prosecutor. There are only three causes set down for trial at the ensuing civil sittings. t These will be tried by special juries. One is a case against Captain Casey, on account of an accident on one of his steamers, by which a lady was injured. The damages are laid at £1600. At length the protracted bankruptcy case, re George Thorne, jun., has terminated, by the bankrupt's certificate being suspended for twelve months. The case has occupied a great deal of the public attention, having been before the Court for nearly tiro years. There is one action pending against the owners of the QueeV f J Beauty gold mine, in which a working man " claims £16,000 damages on account of having been excluded from a particular " drive," which he had undertaken to work under an agreement. This is the principal business.
