THE TRAMWAY QUESTION.
To the Editor of the Herald. Sir,—l notice in the Star of last night an article laying down rather forcibly the unfair treatment that our so-called stranger friend, Mr. Turner, has been subjested to through our docile and well-tamed councillors not saying you shall, in seven days, tear up all or any of our streets that we have so long been making, stop all other traffic, and, generally speaking, do very much aa you like—that is, if you want to get away again, having our doubts that 'Frisco cannot very long do without you. I, Mr. Editor, can contribute, through Mr. Turner himself, a further bit of information to the Star, how our so-called stranger friend has been duped during his stay amongst us. Someone (probably looking for a billet) has represented to him that C3S passengers travelled in Mr. F. Quick's coaches last Friday and Saturday, whereas the greatest number that could travel by them would be, at 6d each, 363. Now, as Saturday night comes in one of these two days, when all 'buses remain out till midnight, and passengers after hours pay double, it must follow the correct number will bo from 300 to 340. And this is what our great new Vogel has formed his estimates from, and by which we are all to be guided, and, as the Star would have it, without one moment for breathing time. This forcibly reminds me of going in in haste and ro pentinc at our leisure. We have had some painful experiences about companies, promoters, shareholders, dummies, and all their belongings, therefore I conclude by saying, aa before, be watchful, ye councillors.— I am, &c, W. Crowther.
