LORNE-STREET HALL.

A grand variety entertainment was given la»t evening by the Auckland amateurs irs aid of Mrs, Seitie and family, w. ,su recent bereavement has become so widely known and the object of such general sympathy. The large hall was well filled, and rhe result will be a substantial assistance to a suffering family. The performance was under the patronage of the Odd Fellowß and the Hibernian Society, many of whom appeared with the insignia of their respective orders. The programme was ■very interesting, and iJI the items were rendered most creditably. There were some acrobatic performance!) by the Mattison Brothers ; so-ne nigger dancing and sin.7JnjK by the Mcttatn Brothers; C -•-'»• ' eongi" and sketches by Messrs. O'Hare, Lforan, Mahoney, and a "gentletian amateur." All these passed off with considerable eclat, and most of them were londly encored. When one considers the ose to which amateur talent of this kind is put hy these young gentlemen, it would be unjust to -aithhold from them the high commeoilatiV,n such disinterested kindness and fello-A-fetlug deserve. There was an excellent oreheara, and the entertainment concluded witb a laughable farce. The whole thing was creditable in every sense of the word, and, is an entertainment, had merit superior to uany which are given with all the aids ~f μ-ofessioiial skill and talent.
