It is stated on good authority that u eommij. sion will be formed to enquire into the circumstances connected with the sickness on board the Berar, and the state of the immigrants when shipped. JfELSOX, Wednesday. At the meeting of the City Council last night, all the members but two adjourned in consequence of a resolution passed by a meeting of ratepayers that the Council had lost their respect and contidence. Everything is at sixes and sevens. The Corporation has an overdraft of £1700 at the Bank, which dishonoured their cheques yesterday. CHRISTCHUIiCH, Wednesday. During 1573 twenty-four vessels, containing upwards of 9,000 immigrants, arrived in this province, against twelve vessels, with •2,103, in IST3. John Mercer has been formally committed for trial for the murder of Isabella Thompson.
