Tm: annual meeting of the educational ratepayer* for the election of a school committer for thi. c district, was held in the schooldiouse paddoeU on Saturday o»enimj last, at six o'clock. Considering the busy times, there was a goodly number present. On the motion of Mr. Tolloek, Mr. F. Wigham took the chair.—Alter reading the advertisement the meeting, the Chairman called on Mr. William limit ny to read the report, from which the following are a few extracts:-- ''At the commencement of the year 1574, as many of you are aware, the school was held in the old building, and the erection of this the new school-house was at quite a standstill. Immediately on taking otliee we collected some .t'2l Us lOd in the district, ami on application to the Hoard of Education for a in aid of building the school, received fjr>, on receipt of which we calle I for tenders for the erection of the school building ami accepted the lowest, that of Mr. T. llegbic, whose tender was for labour only, exclusive of out oJliccs. Wei 1 , the building was linished, and the school assembled in it, during the month of September, at a cost of ,tY>9 10s, exclusive of timber. Wc then applied to the Hoard for another grant, which, however, would not be given unless your committee would guarantee the completion of the building, which, as we all know, wc could not do. The Hoard of Education then gave us permission to sell part of the timber now lying outside, and intended for a teacher's house, to enable us to complete school and liquidate the debt, but on calling for tenders frcm intending purchasers, the price ottered not being adequate, the Hoard resolved on holding the timber over till after the visit of the inspector. Your committee have, however, been enabled to pay otV the debt, but at the same time regret their inability to pay a debt due to the late treasurer of School Committee, amounting to US 10s, advanced by him in payment of timber. This sum, however, has bceu reduced by a second subscription of £1 to £7 IDs. The committee have met for the transaction of business over twenty times, besides the visits to the school, at all of which they are happy to say they found it in a satisfactory state; and the committee desire to congratulate the parents and guardians of the children of this district on the progress of the children ami the ability and energy of the teacher (Mr. Chihuan). The number of children attending the school is 'JO, with an average daily attendance tluring the year of 00. which number are attended to by the teacher without assistance."—Mr. If.
