It has • been round that it is quite enough to touch the nostrils of a horse, simply passing the Haters along the sides cf his nose, to stop the activity of his heart and respiration, and to stop consciousness in a measure. It is well i known now that most of those men who i succeed in quieting violent horses-put their i fingers on that part, and sometimes insid« the nares. Merely touching these p&rts may j produce the same effect; pressing hard has : more effect. It is not essential t hat the api plication *oe vnaile there, as a pressure of the lip may do the same tiling.
