COLONIAL PRIZE-FIRING.

[By Ei.Ecntic Telkukavh.]

[FROM Ol'K OWN" I'OIiIiESI'ONnKNT.] CAMP, PARAWAI, Monday. Shootinc -was resumed this morning, by the North competing with the South, for the C'u]> ami llitles ; anil it w : 'l be seen that the North were again victorious, winning by 12 points. The shooting was very indifferent indeed, although it is somewhat better than last year; the North ou that occasion making ">lO points, and the South 4SS points. The top score in to day's match was ivia''e by one of the Southern men (Richardson), with 01 points, ami he is therefore entitled to Co ; while Armstrong, for the Thames, made the highest score of 01 on the winning side, entitling him to the Silver Cup and i'o. Skinner, :it the 200 yards range, made the splendid score of 2.") points : and Richardson, of tlie South, 21. The former at the two last ranges then fell off a little, while Richardson maintained aj|good average throughout. Leigh made lair shooting at the tirst range, but he dropped very much in the last two. Armstrong's scores at the whole of the ranges were very equal ; if anything, he shot the steadiest at the long range. Complaints regarding the irregularity of the ammunition are very loud, and it is no unusual thing to see a cartridge, which appears to have the regular quantity of powder, when touched or squeezed, turnout not more than one-third of the requisite quantity, while in many instances there is no powder at all. A competitor may be shooting dead 'ill. and be successful in several shots, and then suddenly his ball would fall forty or lifty yards short. This happened on Saturday to Wilson, and again to-day, and in each ease it was a source of great annoyance. The stall' match conies off this afternoon, and tomorrow the Airniishers with moving targets, and the marksmen's match. Ninth Match—Noktii v. South.
