THE MIRANDA OR MARAMARUA COAL COMPANY.

Tx compliance with the request of the public, who recently attended a meeting convened by the promoters of the company, a few tons have been brought over, and parcels have been sent to two batteries for public trial. As only one of the tests—that sent to the Queen of Beauty battery—is complete, I refrain from commenting upon the results until that at the Bright Smile Comi>any's battery is finished. The following is the report, but I may add that H tons of Bay of Islands coal is consumed at the same battery in 24 hours :—

To the Directors of the Maramania Coal Company. —Gentlemen, —l have the honor to report upon,the coal received from you for trial. The quantity received was 1} tons. Commenced to crush with 20 stampers at 8.30 a.m., with a perfectly clean fire. The coal lasted until 11.30 p.m., making lij hours' steam. I consider it of good quality ; we kept at our usual speed, and found little clinker, absolutely no sulphur, and almost perfect freedom from smoke.—f remain gentlemen, youra obediently, Jamlh Daiuiow, Manager.
