VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The usual weekly parade of Engineer Volunteers was held Last evening in the Drill-shed. There was a good muster, and the work was satisfactorily performed. The following instructions have been issued for the information of Volunteers in the Auckland district : "The company preliminary firing, prescribed in par. 5, page 9, Prize Firing Regulations, 1875, to determine district representatives, will be carried out (with company ammunition) on the Mount Eden range, oil the days mentioned below, commencing at !) o'clock a.m. Those who competc must be holders of efficiency certificates, dated 31st March, 1874. The officers appointed to supervise will send into the District Cilice accurate score lists immediately after the firing, and at least one oliicer of each of three corps must be present on each occasion:—Wednesday, 11th November : Victoria Company, Naval Brigade, adult officers of Cadet Company ; Captain Anderson to supervise. Thursday, 12th November: Engineer Company, Scottish Company, Otahuliu Company; Captain Mowbray, No. 3 Company, to supervise. Tuesday, 17th November : No. 2 Company A. R. V., No. 3 Compauy A. R. V.; Captain Burns of the Artillery Company to supervise. Monday, 10th November; Artillery Company and Mount Hobson Company ; Captain Mowbray of Scottish Company to supervise." Some time ago No. t Company I'ukckohe Rifle Volunteers received a challenge of 10 men aside from the Forest Rangers, Mauku, which they accepted. The tiring took place on the 23rd instant. The men were on the range between 10 and 11 o'clock, and, after a great many delays, they commenced by ] 1 o'clock. There was not much interest taken by the No. 1 Company, because they thought they would be beaten, but in a short time they picked up spirit, and had it not been that one of their members fell sick, they would have won tiio day. At 200 yards the Forest Rangers gained 8 points ; at 400, No. 1 gained 3 points; at 500, 1 point; thus leaving the Forest Rangers victors by 4 points. There was a friendly feeling throughout the contest; 4S being the highest score of the Forest Rangers, and that of No. 1 Company 41. A return match will take place soon on the Mauku range. The Forest Rangers had moro bull's-eyes and misses ; No. 1 outers and centres. The scores were :—Mauka, 3f>2; No. 1 Company, 345. No. 3 Auckland Rifles had better try both Companies,—[Correspondent.]
