WAIUKU.

As a mark of respect to the late Dr. Topp, a very neat headstone has been erected. The necessary funds for the erection were obtained by subscription of one shilling each, and I am glad to say that all responded to the call. The stone was obtained from Mr. Buchanan, "Wellesley-street, Auckland, at a cost of about six pounds, and bears the following inscription -' Supscription Tablet, ill memory of George Topp, Surgeon, formerly of Bath. Died 23rd of July, 1574, in his 74th year." Too much praise cannot be given to the settlers for the action thev took in having such a mark of respect erected to their late friend and doctor, which will enable them to look back to the times that are gone.—A newstore and dwelling (to the order of Mr. J. A. Adams, one of our enterprising storekeepers) is in course of erection. The site of the new building is a capital one, situated on a corner allotment nearly opposite the store of Mr. C. W. Flexman. The contractors, Messrs. Hennessy and Hammond, commenced work about a week ago, and are going ahead rapidly, so, in the course of a few months, by this building there will be a great addition to our village. The weather up to the last few days has been exceedingly boisterous, but when a few tine days set in, most of those settlers having sheep washed them, and it is to be hoped we shall have fine weather next week, as sheep shearing will be the order of the day.--[Own Correspondent, October 24.]
