PAPAKURA RATEPAYERS' MEETING.

To the iiditor of the Hekald. Sir,—So that gentleman who would have led many to believe he was a victim of misplaced confidence has thought proper to publish his name. Well, myself, with many others beg to tender our thanks for that same. I can also assure Mr. Mnir—trusting he may sleep all the sounder for the information—that he was no victim of misplaced confidence, for his proxy was used for the highest rate proposed at the meeting ; and as he asks, "who did the 'many' think it was ?" I can assure him they did not think it was one of the late trustees ; and I myself would think it would have been better for him had he done his duty as a trustee, or more especially as the collector, and have attended the annual meeting. I would also inform liiui acting as school master was no excuse, for I spoke to some of the school committee, who told me they would have "'veil him a day's leave with pica nm. As mj acquaintances bein = - suelx " sv;picious characters,'' I thirA it ■ hinself lli: ; i-3 suspicious, thinking he was . poor victim, of misplaced confidence, which certainly must have done, or he would j"-L- have signed himself " Misplaced Confidence." Ho also tells us that he is cognisant of what passed at what he in his wrath would choose to call "a hole-and-corner meeting." Hellas certainly misplaced his confidence this time, for by his letter he knows nothing about what he would please to term a " hole-and-corner meeting." As regards the Hekald having the largest circulation in the district, I find ho has been placing his confidence again this time in "the postman," and I am afraid misplaced it, for ] would tell Mr. Midland also "the postman"—whosoever that individaa' may be—that a great number of the IlF.iiALlis come daily into tiie district without passing t!trough that useful institution, the Post Office. Hoping yon will excuse the length of this,—-I am, &c\, H. Gladdini., Woodside. [This matter having been sufficiently ventilated, we must now close the correspondence.—Ed. N.Z.H.]
