The vessel belonged to Mr. J. W. Waller, having lately been purchased by him, and has since traded between Tairua and this port with timber. The schooner was loaded at the mill with timber and was standing out of the harbour with a fair wind, when the wind suddenly fell and died away to a dead calm. The current then set the vessel in towards the land and she drifted ashore. The Onward was a comparatively new vessel, having been built at Coromandel a few months ago. She was insured in the New Zealand Insurance Company. From a, late copy of The Times (London) we notice that the New Zealand Shipping Company (Limited), of London, and Christchurch, New Zealand, have, in consequence of the company being a colonial one, and wishful to have their ships cillerl after the native names of the river 3 of New Zealand, given notice that it is their intention to apply to the Board of Trade, under section C of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1871, to change the names of their ships The ship Dorette, S7O tons, is to be registered under the name of "VVaimea.
