On Saturday, the 18th, the first" cricket match of the Wangarei Club came ofF, viz., Married v. Single. The married men were beaten, I believe, for the first time ; but no doubt tbey will soon make up for their defeat. The victory on the part of the Bingle men wbb mainly attributable to the Beore of Mr. Seccome, who made 42, and took his bat out with him. A first-rate di.PJWT W'ta provided by host Anderson, at the Settlers' Hotel, —Sir Robert Douglas in tho chair. All present seemed to enjoy themselves. We want a few more like Sir ltoberL Douglas and Mr. Whitelaw amongst us to encourage our old British sports. Mr. O'Sullivan, the Inspeotor of Schools, has arrived from the Wairoa.— [Correspondent.]
