The crew left the wreck, and brought the sails ashore. Sailed : Southern Cross, for Auckland, at, S a.m., with the following passengers :—Mr.Williuuison, M.H K. ; Messrs. Baker, Forbes, Watkin, Wrigley, Jeffreys, \Valker, Macdonald, \Yo.--i (2), Captain Tunks, Messrs. Fox, Buwn.iui, McGregor, and 60 fat sheep. A ketch hus arrived from Auckland. The Water'iiiy, from Opotiki to Auckland, put in yesterday through stress of weather. Had produce, passengers, and the prisoner Delanev, charged with horse-stealing, under the charge of Constable Whelan. 4.30 p.m. Twenty tons of firewood have been brought away from the Waterlily. It appears that when the craft first touched she lost her rudder. She is ?ti!l on the rocks. The Isabella has put back. iS'AriEE, Monday, 2 p.m. The bridges over the Waikato at Taupo are finished. Everything is now bridged between 2<apier and Taurunga.
Arrangements have been made between tbe proprietors of the s.s. Southern Cross for running between Auckland and Tauranga. Tbe contractors for the Xuurauga mail service to provide through route from Napier to Auckland. CnßisrcnrscH, Monday, 7.30 p.m. G. B. Stili'e died suddenly, under somewhat suspicious circumstances, yesterday. A man named Hill is in custody charged with manslaughter. An inquest is now beiug held on the body. A draft Bill for the amendment of the Canterbury Rivers Act is now being prepared, and will be introduced into the Assembly next session. Sew Plymouth, Monday, 7.30 p.m. Mr. Parris has gone to point out the line, to connect with the mountain road ou this side. The Council has granted Mr. Walduck a lease of 5000 acres of forest laud for charcoal. Port Chalmers, Monday, S p.m. Arrived : Barque, supposed to be the Agra, from Sew Y.jtk ; Coronet, from Kennedy's Bay ; Mary Webster, at the Heads. Sailed: Lyttelton, for Auckland. The Wellington sails for the North tomorrow. Dunedi>", Monday, 7.30 p.m. Stout decline* to stand for Waikouaiti. The third telegraph iine from Napier to Auckland, under the superintendence of Mr. Floyd, the electrician, is progressing rapidly. Flour, £12 10s ; oatmeal, £25 ; pearl barley, £32 ; wjeat, 5= 3d to 5s 6d ; b>*aD, £3 10s ; pollard. £5. Dr. Menzies has been returned to the Provincial Council for Mataura, unopposed. The case of alleged personation at the Peninsula has been tried. There was no appearance on behalf of the prosecutor, and the accused was discharged. Mr. Cumming has been returned for the Aparima district, defeating Bastings. 8 p.m. Mr. Sumpter has been returned unopposed for Waitaki. A company has purchased the Morning Star plant, and intend issuing a first-class daily, to be called the Globe. There is to be an influential directory. Mr. Vincent Pyke is to be the editor.
Heart of Oak and Star of the East Companies, at Cromwell, have reduced wages from 70s and 72s to 653 per week of 48 hours. All hands, about twenty, have struck.
