DEATH FROM VIOLENCE.
A MAN named John Walker was apprehended by the police yesterday morning, on a charga of having eaustcl the death of a Hindoo known by the name of " Goey," by violently assaulting him 011 Saturday night. From what wo can learn, the facts of the case are as follows: It appears that the deceased (who was a very old man, well known to the police through his drunken habits,) had gone to his home in Chancery-street, on Saturday night, in a sta: o of partial intoxication. Walker was there at the time, aud it would appear that he had struck him, kuocked him dov7n, and afterwards (so it is said) jumped upon him. Tho fact of the assault came to the knowledge o£ the police, who, on going to the house, found the poor old Hindoo upon tho ground in an insensible condition. They at once sent for Dr. M. E. B. Nicholson, who, on arrival, pronounced the man to be dead. During to.e course of yesterday morning facts came to tho ears of the police, which led them to apprehend "Walker, who will await the result of the Coroner's inquest, which will take place at two o'clock this afternoon, at the Auckland Hotel.
