POLICE COURT. —Friday.
[Before J. SI. Dargaville, Esq., J.P.,] Deunkenitess.—Four offenders were dealt with in the usual way. Breaches of the Imtocndixg Act.— Robert Dennisou, for permitting a cow to wander in Parnell, was fined 2s. 6d, and costs. —James Q-alvin, for a similar offence in the same district, was mulcted iu 2s. 6d, and costs. Breaches op Crrr Bxe-Laws.—Sylvanus Nutter, was charged with driving two horses attached to a dray, without leading reins, on the 9th instant, and was fined 10s. and costs for his neglect.—James B. Hayes, for permitting his chimney to take fire on the 10th instant, was lined os. and costs. — Sarah Walker, was charged by Constable Melville with permitting her goat to wander on unenclosed laud, contrary to the by-law in that case made and provided. Mr. Joy explained to the Bench, that it was a ease of mistaken identity ; in fact it was all a joke. The Bench said it was a very serious matter indeed tojokewitha constable on duty. Constable Melville deposed that to Ihe best of his belief the goat belonged to the defendant. Rebutting testimony was adduced. The case was dismissed.
