ORPHAN HOME, PARNELL.
The annual distribution of prizes to tha children in the Parnell Orphan Home," took place yesterday afternoon, in the school-room. Ttie Right Rev. Bishop Cowio presided, an 1 presented the prizes to the children. Beforo delivering them over, His Lordship expressed hi 3 gratification at the order and cleanliness of the scholars, which reflected the highest credit upon the matron, Miss Burns. ° Ifo was also much pleased at the good report which had been given by the examiners - the Rev. C. M. Kelson and Mr. Adams, of tho Grammar School —of the progress which the children were making in their general education under Mrs. Davis, the governes", who with the matron, was complimented by tho Bishop. The prizes were then delivered bv the Bishop. Charles Lyall took the first prize for the Ist class, and Christian Neilson took the second prize. A. Y. Pctnaro took the first prize in the 2nd class, J. Kent taking the second prize. Mary MeLarren took the first prize among the girls, Alice Riley the second and Maria Cape the third prize. The prize' to 2nd class girls was taken by Perpetua Waiapu. Two special prizes were given by Dr. Goldabro' for cleanliness, and were awarded to William Howel and .Eliza Mason Two other special prizes for general <r o od conduct were given by Mr. R. C. Dyer,°und fell to the lot of John Wliytchead' and Christina Cameron. Mr. A. Clark presented two copies of the Band of Rope and Mritish Workman, for general reading by the school Mr. Graham, on behalf of the Provincial Government, expressed himself very well satisfied with the appearance and conduct of tho children, and the cleanliness of the institution Ihree cheers were given by tho children for toe -bishop.
