ONEHUNGA R.M. COURT.
Wednesday. [Before It. C. Barstow, I'sq., K.M.] Lakcexy.—Pit rick Dunn, a labouring man from Muncere, v.a-- by a fellowlubourer (John Prennan) with stealing a sum of £6 53 6d, his money. l'r jsecutor deposed : I was in the employ of Mr. James Wallace, of Mangere. Prisoner was in the same service. We slept in the same out-building. I had £6 5s 6d in a pillow in that room, l'he money was safe on Sunday, the 11th, and I believe for some nights later. I first missed it on Saturday, when I was going to sleep. I reported my lot's the same night, to Constable Gamble, at OUihuhu, and told him I bad reason to suspect the prisoner. James Wallace deposed : Prisoner was in my employ at Mansrere. He left on Wednesday, the 14th of May. I discharged him. I saw him back at my plane on Saturday last. He was then walking away from the place where proseeutov and prisoner used to sleep. Constable Crumble deposed: I arrested the prisoner in bed at the Star Hotel, Otahuhu. In his trousers pocket I found a puree containing three one - pound notes, half-a-sovereign, and ten shillings and eightpence. Prosecutor positively -identified one of the notes. Prisoner said ho had drawn four pounds from tho J3ank of Isesv Zealand on the previous diy ; on inquiry at the bank, this statement was found to be untrue. Whilst bringing him to Court this rooming, he told me he took the nnme}*, 52 of it on a> previous occasion, and 5s 6d on Saturday. Prisoner admitted his guilt. His Worship s.iid, after this confession, he should act under the power given to him, and sentenced prisoner to nine mouths' hard labour.
