CHURCH SOIREES AND DANCING.

To the Editor of the Ukkald. Sir, —In your issue of the 17th inst. appears a letter sigued " Churchman," iu answer to which I would wish to make a few remarks. Aa u Church committeeman, and one who took an active part in getting up the concert and j dance at Papakura, on Wednesday last, 1 do not concur in the opinions of " Churchman, as I consider the ohurchwardens and committeemen, as such, are a sufficient guarantee that the entertainment would be conducted in it proper manner, and that no " undesirable individuals" Bhould be present at such concerts, &c. Had " Churchman" been present •n that occasion (and it is a pity he was not), I am sure that even he would have been unable to discover any undesirable intimacies contracted or any "undesirable individuals present. As to "Churchman's" remarks about churchwardens, &c., providing dancißg

saloons, I consider the allusion too ii_.w and 100 contempiible to call for any remark. I believe it is the intenti )tj of tiia Papakura people to have another concert and dunce very shortly. " Churchman" can ltave an opportunity of judging for liimaelf by paying his admission fee, which is the same price for a little man as a big one, as there will be no half-price. It would have been more straightforward and manly had " Churchman" signed his own mane.—l am, &c., , Wit. Silih. Papakura, May 19, 1873.
