REPLY TO BISHOP CROKE.
To the Editor of the llehald. Sib, —I Tery much regret- that Bishop Croke, in his letter to you on Saturday last, should imply that, in performance of my duties as cbairjßari at the Children's Home annual meeting on Thursday evening last, I act?d other than impartially. Xam sure, on further reflection, he will exonerate ine, and I fetl assured the public will. The words I used were not quite as reported by you, although, in substance, nearly go. The reply to a regret expressed by Mr. Main, that eome members of the Roman Catholic clergy or ]aity were not nominated on tbo comiiiittco of management, at the request of the Secretary and a member of committee, I said " I was informed the committee had invited the Catholic clergy or laity to bo represented, in tho management, but that a letter had been received from Bishop Croko declining to be connected with it." If there was any error in this statement it was not mine.—l am, &c., May 18, 1873. P. A. Philips.
