The ship .Norliam Castle and the barque Grladiateur will leave for Newcastle to-duy. The whaling barque Java, of Nex- Bedford, is provided with an upright five-horse-power engine, to be used in cutting-in whales and discharging cargo, hoisting topsails, if required, etc. This proved a great saving of time and labor, as it usually requires 15 or 16 men to •ut in a whale, while, with the help of the engine, sis men can attend to it. The engine is stationed in the forecastle, occupying a space ten feet by four feet. It is the first ever carried to sea in a whaler for these purposes. The idea originated with the first officer of the Java, Mr. E. T. Fish, of Falmouth, Mass. We have no doubt that the same idea, if it proves a success practically, will be carried out by whalers in these colonies. The brig Albion, Captain McKenzie, took her departure for Newcastle yesterday afternoon. The schooner Fortune arrived in harbour from the East Coast yesterday, with a cargo of settlers' produce. The schooner Kenilworth hauled alongside the wharf and commenced to discharge her cargo yesterday.
