PARLIAMENTARY

THE NEW MINISTRY. ADJOURNMENT TO FRIDAY. [Fkom the Associated Pkess.l .WELLINGTON. Tuesday. Stafford to-day announced that he had formed a Ministry, consisting of himself, Fitzherbert, Gillies, Curtis, Reid, and Sewell, probably, however, at least one other member would bo added. It was intended, also, to add one, if not two, Maori members to the Executive, to advise on native mutters, but the greatest care and deliberation would be exercised in selecting these native members. As Ministers had only been sworn in a few hours, they would ask tho House to adjourn to Friday, to enable them to d«cido what business should bo procoeded with, and what should bo allowed to stand over. Gillies would be Treasurer, and Reid Minister of Public Works. Tho other portfolios wero not yet allotted. _ Ltrown (Canterbury) asked if Gillies, Fitzherbort, and Curtis had resigned their Superintendences. Stafford replied that they would resign either before or at the end of tho session, therein following McLean's example in 1860. Tho House need be under no apprehension that any Superintendents would be in tho Government. Eox reminded the House that in McLean's case, he had not, like Stafford, made a positive declaration against Superintendents being in tho Ministry. Ho hoped Curtis, Gillies, and Fitzherbert would resign before the end of the session, as, if there was anything wrong in Superintendents being in the Ministry, their presence thero must be especially mischievous during the session, when their offices enabled them°to bring a large amount of pressure to bear. He congratulated Stafford on so many of his old colleague?, and amongst them Sewell, being once more in the Government. After some further debate, an Imprest Supply Bill of £50,000 Consolidated Fund, and £20,000 Defence Loan, was passed through al stages. Gisbome resigned his seat for Egmout. A new writ has been ordered to be issued. The Hon. D. McLean gives a dinner tonight to the late Government supporters. rFliOir OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.J Stafford intimated the formation of his Government to-day, Waterhouse having ultimately declined to take a seat in the Ministry. Sewell is nominated with the lead in the Legislative Council. Sewell's name was rece ved with ironical cheering. Gillies' statement of the policy will be made on Friday. The Opposition seem determined to fight. Sewell is not likely to strengthen the Ministry. An infusion of new blood is desirable. Macandrew gave notice of his separation resolutions, also of a motion " That £100,000 from the Public Works Loan be entrusted to the Otago Provincial Government for water supply on their goldfields."
