INCENDIARISM ON BOARD THE CITY OF NEWCASTLE. DEATH OF A FIREMAN. SUDDEN DEATH OF MR. ARNOTT. DISEASED CATTLE ACT. "TE KOOIT'S BUTCHER" ARRESTED. [Fooii the Associated Press.] WELLINGTON. Thursday, 3 p.m. Anxorr, lato proprietor of the IFairarapa Mercury, is dead. Ho is suppjsed to have poisoned himself. The collier City of Newcastle wa3 set on fire at the wharf at 3 o'clock this mornm<*. One of the crew, named Kenny, is arrested as the incendiary. Guilford, one of the firemen, fell down the hatch and broke his back. He died in a few minutes. The vessel was not much damaged. The Diseased Cattle Act comes into force from to-day. NAPIER. Maaka, known as " Te Kooti's butcher," is arrested. Ho is charged with the murder of a native mailman in 1863. It is expected that he will be committed for trial.
